Community Outreach

As a small nonprofit organization, Forbes House understands the importance of community and honors that commitment through outreach, education and prevention. Awareness and education are the keys to abuse and violence prevention. It is our goal to end the cycle of domestic violence through outreach education in the schools, in the courts and in the community.

Our Community Educators speak with individuals and groups at schools, jails, juvenile institutions, rehabilitation centers, community groups, businesses, churches, health and wellness fairs and every opportunity available to end the cycle of domestic violence. Issues relating to domestic violence, dating violence and healthy relationships are addressed.

Content includes but is not be limited to evidence-based curriculum, topics about the different types of abuse, profile of an abuser, warning signs, how to get help, and how to help others who may be in need.

  • One in three teens in the U.S. is a victim of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner
  • Only 33% of teens in an abusive relationship ever told somebody about the abuse
  • In a national online survey, 1 in 5 tweens, ages 11-14, say their friends are victims of dating violence. The survey also states that 2 in 5 of the youngest tweens, ages 11 and 12, report that their friends are victims of verbal abuse in relationships
  • Dating abuse is a pattern of behavior where one person uses threats of, or actually uses, physical, sexual, verbal, or emotional abuse to control his or her dating partner
  • Nationwide, nearly 1 in 10 high school students has been hit, slapped, or physically hurt on purpose by a boyfriend or girlfriend
  • Violent relationships during adolescence can have serious ramifications by putting the victims at higher risk for substance abuse, eating disorders, risky sexual behavior, and further domestic violence

Forbes House is committed to ending the cycle of abuse by educating and engaging
the community.
